Five men in two cars were detained on 24 September in the act of trying to implement skinning the tiger. To sell a product they failed thanks to the intervention of border authorities.
Now instituted administrative proceedings on signs of an administrative offense under article 8.35 of the administrative code of Russian Federation ("Destruction of rare and endangered species of animals or plants").
Also solves a question on excitation of criminal case under article 258.1 of the Criminal code of Russian Federation ("Illegal hunting and trafficking of especially valuable wild animals and aquatic biological resources belonging to the species listed in the Red book of the Russian Federation and (or) protected by international treaties of the Russian Federation").
Now the tiger's coat is sent for examination where the experts should find out gender, age, and the exact habitat of a dead animal.
“It happened right on the eve of Tiger Day. It is even embarrassing to use the word "people" in relation to the Amur tiger trying to earn money on the "blood". Of course, this is a sad fact. On the other hand, law enforcement agencies have once again proved that thanks to their efforts, it is possible to detect and stop such crimes. Only by defeating demand and making it impossible to earn on parts of the tiger's body, we can stop poaching.” - commented the director of the Primorsky branch of the Amur Tiger Center Sergey Aramilev. - “It is time to realize that the tiger is the property of Russia, and the trade in the Motherland has always been considered below its dignity and severely punished. We hope that in the course of the investigation all the citizens involved in the crime will be identified and in the event of proving their guilt they will suffer a fair punishment.”
