School of eco-journalism awards taiga Alive-began its work July 30, in the Khasan district of Primorye.

July 30 took place the solemn ceremony of awarding the winners and laureates of the contest of the far Eastern environmental journalism awards Alive taiga -2015. For the first time in the history of the competition, this event, which came to best environmental journalists of Primorsky, Khabarovsk Krai, Zabaykalsky Krai, Amur and Jewish Autonomous regions, is not in the hall, and the sound of the surf, on the shore of the sea of Japan.

Here, on the camp "Protected" from viewing the documentary film "Primer Pathfinder", filmed by the Studio "Zov Taigi" by request of the Amur Tiger Center to a simultaneous survey of the Amur tiger, opened the School of environmental journalism. The opportunity to participate in this seminar along with Ginseng "Living taiga" is a reward and incentive to participate in the contest.

“Last year was a year of shocks for everyone, including journalists.  The newspapers are shrinking, the TV is becoming stupid and the ranks are thinning.  But at the same time, our competition showed that the “survivors” began to write and shoot more fun and interesting.  Our topic has become multifaceted, fascinating and ... with a human face. We will speak at the seminar about how we will not lose this person,” - said Vasily Solkin, chairman of the Living Taiga Organizing Committee.

“The importance of journalism in nature conservation is hard to overestimate.  Sometimes apt reportages of journalists and fair analytical reviews allow us to expose "difficult" poachers or raise a serious environmental problem that requires shearing solutions from the state. In essence, journalists are the part of the people who are more likely to be heard by society or understood by the state,” - commented Sergey Aramilev, director of the Primorsky branch of the Amur Tiger Center.- “Meanwhile, media activities can also play a negative role when illiterate reports or articles with erroneous judgments make it possible for poachers to escape responsibility or to harm nature directly, for example, by supporting the wrong bill.  The most annoying thing is that, for the most part, media employees harm nature not on purpose, but simply because of a lack of information or a lack of knowledge in this topic.  Therefore, we believe that projects such as the School make a huge contribution to improving the environmental awareness of journalists, as well as the whole society. We clearly see this by the high level of materials submitted to the “Alive Taiga” competition this year.”

The program of the School of Environmental Journalism includes meetings with Dmitry Gorshkov, director of one of the oldest tiger reserves in Primorye, Sikhote-Alinsky, which celebrates its 80th anniversary this year, and Tatyana Baranovskaya, director Land of Leopard national park, created 3 years ago.

Peter Osipov, Ph.D. will acquaint journalists with the Green Belt of Amur program and the tasks in the Amur Ecoregion.  Dmitry Sychikov will talk about new trends in forest poaching, the introduction of modern technologies and the informatization of forestry.

Sergei Aramilev, C.b.N., the Director of the Primorye branch of ANO Amur tiger Center, will give a session on "Conservation of the Amur tiger, the preliminary results of the one-time accounting 2014/2015, strategy and trends. "Legal bases of activity of the journalist. Current enforcement issues" – the topic of the lecture Irina Balahnina, the lawyer of the bar "Balakhnin and partners."
