Within holding the 14th All-Russian competition "The Best Lesson of the Letter" the Russian Post has announced two new themes: "At my place there lives the Amur tiger" and "A tiger – the master of Ussuri Krai". The nominations are formulated by the Amur Tiger Center and Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The children's letters and drawings devoted to the largest cat in the world will be accepted till May 30, 2016.
"Annually in "The best lesson of the letter" more than hundred thousand school students and students from all regions of the country participate. It is sure that inclusion in the program of a competition of the subjects devoted to the Amur tigers will allow to draw additional attention to importance of preservation and increase in their population", – the CEO of Russian Post Dmitry Strashnov has emphasized.
The Amur tiger known also as Ussuriysk, Siberian, Manchurian or North Chinese, treats the largest subspecies of the cat family: the tiger cub at the age of six months by the size and weight is comparable with an adult leopard. Length of a body of this big cat together with a tail can reach 3,5 m, height in withers of 1,2 m, and weight to 300 kg. The Amur tiger lives in the basic in the territory of Primorsky and Khabarovsk Krai of Russia, but meets in Amur and the Jewish Autonomous Region.
"The name of the "At My Place There Lives the Amur Tiger" nomination is symbolical. Russia – our house in which under the same roof there live not only people, but also thousands of species of plants and animals. One of our neighbors in this house – the Amur tiger – the largest in the world and the only tiger who has mastered life in snow. The wellbeing of all nature of the Far East of Russia depends on the Amur tigers, but them remained only 540, and the state together with the nature protection organizations does everything possible for their protection", – the CEO of the Amur Tiger Center Yury Biryukov has noted.
