The resident of Khabarovsk sentenced for murder of a tiger

The magistrate of the area of Lazo has pronounced a conviction against the 46-year-old resident of Khabarovsk for commission of crime provided p.1 by Art. 258.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal production, transportation of especially valuable wild animals belonging to the types included in the Red List of the Russian Federation and (or) protected by international treaties of the Russian Federation).

On July 29, 2015 the defendant, being in the territory of hunting grounds, having the hunting ticket, but not having special permission to production of hunting resources, authentically knowing that hunting for the individuals of fauna included in the Red List of the Russian Federation and who are under the threat of disappearance is forbidden, having seen a young Amur tiger, I have shot at an animal from the gun which is available for him. After deeds to avoid criminal liability, the defendant has transported a tiger cub corpse to the bridge through the Katen River and has dumped to the river.

The court has found the defendant guilty of commission of crime and has imposed him sentence in the form of 1 year of corrective works with deduction of 5% of earnings, with deprivation of the right to be engaged in hunting for a period of 6 months. Besides, the court has satisfied the claim of the ministry of natural resources of Khabarovsk Krai to the defendant for damage caused to the nature. The sum of the claim was 1.8 million rubles.

"So far the sentence hasn't taken legal effect therefore it is impossible to consider the citizen guilty. However, it is worth thanking police officers for successful crime detection, - the director of the Far East Amur Tiger Center Department Sergey Aramilev comments. – Always it is worth thinking what will lead unjustified shots on a tiger or other Red Book animals too. Firing at tigers is dangerous not only to health, but also to a purse".

The Amur tiger cub of 6-8 months who at such age doesn't show aggression in relation to the person, even in case of a sudden meeting has fallen a victim of the poacher.
