In the framework of the conference, which was held from 2 to 3 October at the Primorskaya State Academy of Agriculture, experts discussed current issues of modern forestry. The conference was attended by over 50 participants from 11 cities in Russia and abroad.
“Our main task is to unite scientists and various organizations to jointly solve the accumulated problems. Today, science and education do not receive adequate support, the prestige of work in the forest sector is catastrophically low. The conference program includes a large excursion program on the objects of our future model forest. We want to share with our guests our experience in the field of training and research. And, I hope, through this conference, the Institute of Forestry and Forest Park Management will receive new ideas, new connections, and most importantly, new like-minded people in order to effectively solve existing problems,”comments the Rector of the Primorskaya State Academy of Agriculture Andrei Comin.
The conference participants focused on the following areas: experience in sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, achievements and prospects of silvicultural affairs, the role of forest ecosystems in climate formation, forest hunting. Also, an analytical report on the export of wood from the Far East for the last 10 years (2004-2014) was presented at the conference. In addition, the meeting participants made a trip to the field base of the Agricultural Academy in village Kaymanovka, where they walked along the ecological path, got acquainted with the forest nursery of Primorskaya State Academy of Agriculture, Korean cedar cultures, reforestation technologies, examined the cutting area of the Primorskaya State Academy of Agriculture, which was used for reconstruction and learned more about the existing technologies of forest protection from fires.
“The area available for logging already mastered, and now there is a promotion in little disturbed forests of high conservation value. Current extensive model of forest management needs to be revised because it creates risks for mesogobius companies because it leads to the depletion of commercial timber and biodiversity, as destroyed the habitat of rare species,” - says Elena Fedichkina.
The report of the vice-governor of Primorsky Krai Evgeny Vishnyakov was devoted to the issues of transition to sustainable forest management and training necessary for the development of the forest industry. The problems of the forest complex of the Primorsky Krai, requiring the use of the results of research, said the deputy. Director of the Forestry Department of Primorsky Krai Sergey Pstyga. The report by Academician Yury Zhuravlev, Director of the Biological Institute of Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was devoted to topical problems of forestry in the Far East. The rector of Primorskaya State Academy of Agriculture, Andrei Komin, spoke about the prospects for creating a model forest based on the forest area of Primorskaya State Academy of Agriculture.
“There is a fairly common phrase “a forest is a home for animals” but man also benefits from the forest. That is why people need to find a solution that would allow developing forestry without harming the animals, including, of course, the main inhabitant of the forests of the Far East - the Amur tiger, harm” - said the director of the Amur Tiger Center Primorsky branch Sergey Aramiliev -“We all are well aware that the forest is not only wood, but also wild plants, which, among other things, make it possible for residents of taiga villages to earn. As practice shows, with proper organization of work, harvesting of timber and wild-growing plants is possible while maintaining high biological diversity. For this reason, it is now important to train forestry specialists who would already come into the forest not to steal it, but to use it carefully. To achieve this, it is necessary to provide not only high-quality knowledge, but also decent wages.”
The conference was held at the Institute of Forestry and Forest-Park Economy of the Primorsk State Academy of Agriculture. The organizers of the conference: Primorskaya State Academy of Agriculture, Amur Tiger Center and the Primorsky Krai Forestry Department.
